St Mary's Sport Round-Up
Sports Gazette provides a summary of this week's BUCS and cup fixtures for St Mary's.
The St Mary’s ladies football team secured the result of the week on Wednesday as they crushed local rivals Brunel 19-0.
Following last week’s 8-1 win over Reading’s 1st team, the 2nd team’s expectations were high ahead of the crunch match of the season. The visitors, making the 12 mile trip north, continued their impressive start with a faultless display.
The 1st team were also comfortable winners against Portsmouth, going top of the league with a 4-1 victory.
The men’s 3rd team were in cup action against Canterbury at Teddington Lock. A 4-0 win saw the hosts progress to the next round.
A disappointing defeat for the women’s hockey 1st team on the opening day was firmly forgotten as they recorded a resounding 22-0 win over Portsmouth's 3rd team in the cup.
Another emphatic cup win on campus saw the netball 1st team beat Brighton’s 4th team 60-3. The 2nd team have been forced to focus solely on the league after they were beaten 63-35 at Imperial.
The men’s rugby union 1st team were also denied an extended cup run after they were beaten at home by Imperial 22-9. However, the women’s team were 55-10 winners away at Hertfordshire’s 1st team.
The rugby league 2nd team responded to their defeat to Brunel two weeks ago by beating Reading’s 1st team 64-14. The St Mary's 1st team had their game at Loughborough abandoned.
