Woods confirms US Open spot on Twitter
Tiger Woods has confirmed his summer tournament plans on his Twitter account after a promising performance at the Masters.
The former world No. 1 told his 4.43million followers of his plans in the wake of his T17 finish at Augusta National last month, trailing runaway winner Jordan Spieth by 13 strokes.
Woods exceeded expectations in his first event since he withdrew at Torrey Pines in February and has now confirmed his plans for the summer.
The 14-time major winner took to Twitter to write: “See you at the US Open, Open Champ, Memorial, Greenbrier and my Foundation’s event, the Quicken Loans National. Going to be a busy summer.”
The US Open is the second major of the year and will take place at Chambers Bay from June 15th to June 21st.
Woods has won this tournament three times before, in 2000, 2004 and 2008, and his triumph seven years ago was the last time he secured a major title.
The Open Championship will take place at St Andrews from July 16th to July 19th and represents a tournament Woods has not won since 2006.
ESPN golf analyst Jason Sobel wrote on his account: “Early commitments?! Who is this guy?”
Sobel added: “Wish I could see the look on faces at PGA of America headquarters right now, as Tiger failed to include the PGA Championship on summer sked [sic].”
The US Open, Open Championship and PGA Championship will give Woods with the opportunity to close in on Jack Nicklaus’ record haul of 18 majors.
