Australia and team GB were engaged in a head-to-head battle last night at the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge.

Just two weeks after that fateful night in Twickenham when Australia sealed England's fate in the Rugby World Cup, another epic battle between Australia and Team GB was about to occur at the Copper Box Arena, but this time on wheels.

Australia, ranked number one in the world, went in as firm favourites to win and so their 57-55 victory over Great Britain, currently ranked fifth, came as no surprise.

However, Team GB put in a sensational performance against this tough side in front of one of the biggest crowds at the event so far, and made Australia work hard for their victory.

Coral Batey once again stamped her authority on the game dubbed 'The Smashes', which played out like a perfectly executed game of chess between these two wheelchair rugby rivals.

But Sports Gazette man of the match has to go to Jim Roberts, who consistently outwitted the Australian defence helping to keep Team GB in close contention, despite the best efforts of Australia's Ryley Batt and Chris Bond to keep their opponents at arms length.

European champions, team GB, now go on to play Japan this evening at 7.45pm in the game that will decide their path through the rest of the challenge.
