Chelsea 3 – Reading 2

Chelsea managed to secure their place in the Champions League as they beat Reading Ladies in their last home match of the season.

Eniola Aluko netted two goals with Ana Borges also adding to the score sheet for the Blues.

Relegation avoiders Reading closed the gap as Lauren Bruton scored a penalty and Melissa Fletcher made it two for the Royals in the final minutes.

But it was Chelsea that pleased the home crowd as the win edges them closer to finishing second in the table and a spot in the Champions league.

Reading looked dangerous at the start as Emma Follis’ strong early shot on target forced goalkeeper Lindahl to push it wide.

But once settled, Chelsea took the lead in the 19th minute as a corner landed to Millie Bright who headed it onto Aluko whose header made it 1-0 to the Blues.

Moments later, Bruton hammered it from the top of the box but Lindahl just got her fingers to it.

After half time, both teams started strong, but Chelsea had the edge as striker Borges found herself one on one with the goalie managing to make it 2-0.

This didn’t phase Reading as Bruton targeted the Chelsea box and got a penalty, which she struck it confidently into the back of the net.

Soon enough, matters changed as goal scoring machine Aluko got her second goal of the match and 8th of the season as she sealed the win for Chelsea.

Reading continued to fight and despite the referee changing due to an injury, Fletcher remained focused and booted in a final goal during injury time.
