Maori All Blacks Secure Strong Win Against Harlequins
Harlequins 10 v 26 NZ Maori
Maori All Blacks beat hosts Harlequins at the Stoop tonight in the penultimate match of their northern hemisphere tour.
The men in black seized breaks in the Quins chain with two tries from James Lowe after 20 minutes. Shane Christie and Sean Wainui also added tries to the scoreboard.
Quins fought back in the second half as they crept towards the Maoris try line, second time successful.
There was a final flourish from Harlequins making Maori Chris Eves do a big tackle on Josh Davies sending him to the sin bin for the final minute of the game.
The match started with a spectacle as the Maoris took centre stage performing the Timatanga Haka.
But this didn’t rattle Tim Swiel who kicked a penalty in the eighth minute from the 40 metre mark putting Quins first onto the scoreboard.
The Maoris bounced back with dangerman James Lowe scoring the first try followed by a conversion from Ihaia West.
Soon after, Lowe seized another try as he sprinted through a break in the line sliding over in the 19th minute.
Moments later, the Maoris sped past Quins with tries from Christie and Wainui.
Both sides started the second half strong, but it was Quins who capitalised and edged towards the Maoris try line getting the first try for Quins from Dan Murphy.
It was hotly contested for the rest of the half with a final chance from Harlequins resulting in a big hit from Chris Eves sending him to the sin bin with only a minute to go.
