2017 Vitality Netball Superleague preview: Sirens
The 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague promises to be bigger and better than ever with new players, new coaches and new teams!
Ten sides will battle it out to be crowned champions when the league gets underway on Friday 17th February.
Here Sports Gazette gives you the lowdown on Sirens.
Head Coach: Gail Parata
Home Venue: University of Worcester/University of Gloucestershire
Squad: Nicole Aiken-Pinnock, Savannah Antoine, Carla Borrego, Claire Brownie, Rachel Forbes, Bethan Goodwin, Ellen Halpenny, Nicola McCleery, Fiona Moore-McGrath, Caroline O'Hanlon, Jo Pettitt, Lauren Tait
The first Scottish team in the Superleague can be summarised in one word: ambitious. Gail Parata has stated that her side are out to make an impact – performing well on court, developing Scottish players, providing role models and helping further boost the growth of netball.
The club announced that they are called the Sirens because in mythology they are ‘dangerous yet beautiful creatures’ and Parata has certainly assembled an impressive and hugely talented squad from scratch.
Former Jamaica captain Nicole Aiken-Pinnock will provide a towering presence in the defensive line, while shooter Carla Borrego is looking to replicate her impressive record in the ANZ.
The opportunity to return home and be part of a new team, new challenge and new adventure was too good to miss for Claire Brownie, who has joined after two years with Team Bath and has been selected to captain the side.
First fixture: vs. Wasps Netball (H, Tuesday 21st February at 19:45)
