The 2017 Vitality Netball Superleague promises to be bigger and better than ever with new players, new coaches and new teams!
Ten sides will battle it out to be crowned champions when the league gets underway on Friday 17th February.
Here Sports Gazette gives you the lowdown on Loughborough Lightning.
Head Coach: Karen Atkinson. Assistant Coaches: Maggie Birkinshaw and Olivia Murphy
Home Venue: Loughborough University
Squad: Rebekah Airey, Ella Clark, Beth Cobden, Choloe Essam, Ella Gibbons, Hannah Joseph, Olivia Mason, Vicki Oyesola, Natalie Panagarry, Peace Proscovia, Joanna Trip, Vanessa Walker
Loughborough Lightning will be out to make the play-offs after missing out in 2016.
Karen Atkinson has established a high calibre core for her squad by signing Hannah Joseph for a fifth season at the club and welcoming Beth Cobden. Natalie Pangarry shone in the mid-court and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season after Jade Clarke’s ANZ move and Sasha Corbin’s injury increased her playing time. She was also rewarded with her first England cap over summer and will be looking to push on this campaign.
The talented Peace Proscovia is once again on board. Having started a Masters at the university, the Ugandan captain has had an extra four and a half months to prepare and hone her skills.
In addition to being highly-skilled and with a positive work ethic, this level of consistency and continuity in the team – eight players from last season have returned – could pay dividends.
First fixture: vs. Manchester Thunder (H, Saturday 18th February at 18:00)
Regular season winner odds: 10/1 (Sky Bet)
