WEST LONDON VARSITY PREVIEW: St. Mary's netball ready to bring the trophy home
St Mary's Netball Club 1st team are confident of winning their West London Varsity fixture against Brunel on Wednesday 29th March.
They've had a fantastic season, topped off by the club being shortlisted for O'Neill's Club of the Year.
First team captain Becky Moher previews and reminisces on Varsity memories.
Review of the 2016-17 season
"This season has been absolutely incredible for the 1st team because we have only gone and won the league!
"This achievement has been something that we have wanted since the season began.
"We are delighted to be going up into the next league and want to show other universities that St Mary's University Netball Club is one to watch.
"Although we had some injuries, we have still worked hard and always pushed ourselves, especially as our coach, Sharon Moher, wouldn't let it be any other way."
Pre- and post-match rituals
"After every training night before our match on Wednesday, we always chat about anything we need as individuals to make sure that we do well in the fixture - this can be support, more communication or on our feed into shooters.
"This helps us talk to each other and help each other for the match ahead.
"Another pre- and post-match ritual we always do is look at the BUCS league table to see how other teams have done.
"We are always chatting to each other and having a laugh while we are playing together."
"Jess Carey, Lauren Shires and Caitlin Spalding are incredible 3rd years!"
An interesting fact about the team
"In the third quarter of each game we perform our best."
2015 West London Varsity
"Last year's Varsity was an interesting one. We had players who were injured or got injured during the game.
"Although there were some negative comments about the atmosphere, I felt that the atmosphere as a whole was very positive and motivating with cheers and claps.
"Varsity was a good day that was very challenging but also enjoyable to learn and try different combinations. We also didn't have a coach and we just played for fun and went out to enjoy playing good netball.
"This year it is a completely different ball game - we are ready, prepared and we are going out fighting. Our commitment and dedication this year has helped us do extremely well.
"Our committee and coach have worked alongside the players to figure out the best structure and game plan for Wednesday.
"The 1st team are strong and ready to bring the fight on court!"
Should Brunel be scared? Simmies certainly mean business!
