WEST LONDON VARSITY PREVIEW: Men's Football face big challenge away from home
Sports Gazette previews the men's first team football match between St Mary's and Brunel at West London Varsity on Wednesday 29th March.
The international break normally brings a lull in competitive football, but on Wednesday two rivals will collide in a crunch match. No, it's not Netherlands U15s vs Belgium U15s.
In west London, all eyes will be on Sports Park as St Mary's men's first team travel to Brunel for one of a host of football matches as part of the annual Varsity event.
SIMMS FC go into the match fresh off the disappointment of missing out on promotion from South Eastern 2A to 1A, having lost 3-0 to title rivals Reading on Mar 22nd.
Despite finishing second in the league, St Mary's struggled to find the consistency that warranted promotion.
Winning five, losing four and drawing one of their ten games of the BUCS season, St Mary's never managed to string more than one league win conecutively.
Their away form isn't exactly one to be proud of either. Of their five league games played away from Teddington Lock/'Stade de Lens', St Mary's have won just once this season.
Brunel, on the other hand, are on a rich run of form. The hosts have won their last five games including a 3-0 victory over St Mary's two weeks ago at Sports Park.
As it stands, Brunel are still in with a chance of winning the league knowing that a win in the final game of the season against Reading will see them leapfrog both Reading and St Mary's to be promoted to BUCS South Eastern 1A.
This match will close out 2017 West London Varsity and could either be the game to win it all, or a dead rubber.
St. Mary's mens football 1st team will face Brunel at 6pm on the Centre Pitch. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams will be on Site 5 from 1pm too so make sure you head down to give all the teams your full support!
