Community Group & Richmond RFC: Tackling Rugby Union’s Class Issue

Throughout rugby union’s 150-year history the idea has been that it is a game for everyone no matter their shape or size. But is it a game for people from all types of social backgrounds?

In England, particularly at the professional level, there remains an imbalance in the number of people who play rugby union from private school versus state school.

However, there are initiatives being led by the likes of Community Group to address this issue, with one of their nine partner clubs being Richmond RFC. Sports Gazette Rugby Editor, Alex Bidwell, discussed their efforts with Dom Palacio, Richmond’s Head of Community, and a Community Group employee.
