The story of the 2020-21 Premier League season

“Are Tottenham Premier League title contenders?” Sky Sports, 27/10/2020; “A lot of people have been saying there’s a bit of a crisis at Manchester City” BBC, 28/11/2020; “Fulham have shown signs of life in victories over West Brom and Leicester and draws with Liverpool, Brighton and Newcastle” Daily Star, 21/12/2020

All of the above sound ludicrous now, when earlier today Man City won the Premier League at a canter, Ryan Mason’s Tottenham limped to a 7th-placed finish, and Fulham were relegated, 11 points from safety.

But it was not so long ago that these reasonable, perhaps even tame, opinions. Indeed, who could have predicted that when Manchester City beat Southampton on December 19 it would be the first three points of a 15-game winning run that catapulted Pep Guardiola’s men from sixth to the feeling that reclaiming the title was an inevitability. Or just how badly Tottenham would fall away after topping the table with almost one third of the season played.

How about your club? Did you see a bright start wiped out by a midseason slump like the Saints, or careen erratically up and down the table like Villa? Click below for our interactive week-by-week Premier League table and review the key turning points of the season!
