They went 11 games unbeaten from mid-October to the end of 2022, a run that saw them in the hunt for playoff spots and earned Jackson Manager of the Month for November.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, the Dons endured several dramatic collapses and a winless away run in 2023, which saw them drop down the table.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They finished the season in 21st place, just one position and two points above the relegation zone.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><a id='2LLfTyOoSqF3LZy1kDAW3A' class='gie-single' href='http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/1390490158' target='_blank' style='color:#a7a7a7;text-decoration:none;font-weight:normal !important;border:none;display:inline-block;'>Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'2LLfTyOoSqF3LZy1kDAW3A',sig:'wP04k59uFsc61V1AFSFEwqpcQlWE7pP6u0UTc9E4ldg=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'1390490158',caption: false ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>What can Wimbledon do next season to rectify this issue?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The players have looked physically exhausted this season, which could be down to poor squad depth and injuries.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Furthermore, on more than one occasion, substitutions have not had the desired impact the manager or the club would, leading to the high number of late goals the team concedes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can also question how deep the mentality goes through the club.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But it\u2019s difficult to pick out common themes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the last two seasons, the club had three different managers, one season with a psychologist and one without.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plus, there\u2019s been such a high turnover of players that only 11 have been at the club throughout this two-year barren run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throwing away points in the way Wimbledon have done will undoubtedly have had an impact on the players and the fans, and you can sense that nervousness amongst them, often late in games.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There was a very vocal rejection of Jackson from Wimbledon fans in their two final home games of the season, and plenty had been calling for the manager\u2019s head before that.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><a id='Jcb4YtrFQfxHA1zS4frRhQ' class='gie-single' href='http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/1444747311' target='_blank' style='color:#a7a7a7;text-decoration:none;font-weight:normal !important;border:none;display:inline-block;'>Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'Jcb4YtrFQfxHA1zS4frRhQ',sig:'SVzRprmR9mAtmqGUohVOpMYE_N6VGwdf8zMP3R2esZw=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'1444747311',caption: false ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In response to the frustration, Jackson said: \u201cI understand it, that\u2019s supporters, that\u2019s their right, they\u2019re passionate about the team.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing for me because I&#8217;m passionate about this football club and want to deliver what the fans want.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2>The Future<\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultimately the club have decided to stick with Jackson for the 2023\/24 season, with AFC Wimbledon Chairman highlighting his reasons at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afcwimbledon.co.uk\/news\/2023\/may\/fans-forum\/\">end-of-season fans forum<\/a>: <\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis campaign has been undeniably challenging, but let\u2019s not forget it wasn\u2019t so long ago that Johnnie was receiving the Manager of the Month award after a run of results that had propelled us to the brink of the play-off places.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt is our job to do everything we can to equip Johnnie and his team with the tools they need to succeed. We are doing everything we can and we have a real sense of optimism about the next campaign. Our preparations for next season are weeks ahead of where we were this time last year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked about reasons for the poor results, the Chairman said: \u201cOur analysis shows that the top teams in the division have enjoyed 86 per cent player availability this season &#8211; whereas we have been reduced to barely 57 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur playing budget this season puts us around 17th in the division.
