Bees earn point in belter at Griffin Park
Final Score Brentford 3-3 Derby County
Neal Maupay scored his 24th goal of the season after a going five games without finding the back of the net for Brentford.
The Bee’s had to come from behind three times in a scintillating game of football that saw both teams score twice inside the opening half-hour.
Said Benrahma’s 83rd minute equaliser was enough to earn Brentford a point on the night. Derby’s performance will put doubt in Frank Lampard’s side heading into the play-offs.
Harry Wilson, Derby’s loanee winger, was in fine form and scored either side of a Jayden Bogle’s first goal for the Rams.
Wilson’s opener, after 13 minutes, caught the Brentford off-guard. Julian Jeanvier’s equaliser, a thumping volley into the roof of the net, came just ten minutes later.
Bogle put Derby in front again just three minutes later. The 18-year-old’s winding run and cool finish into the bottom left his first goal in professional football.
Maupay struck for the Bee’s again following a swift counter attack after a Derby County corner. Two-all after half an hour.
At the start of the second half Ashley Cole went down in the box. Despite Cole’s and Derby’s protests the referee, John Brooks, showed him a yellow for diving.
Derby went ahead again through Wilson with a little over ten minutes left. His second, made simple, thanks to a fine through-ball from fellow loanee Fikayo Tomori.
Brentford’s third and final equaliser through Benrahma seemed to sap the energy out of the game. With five minutes added on Derby’s efforts to find a winner looked laboured.
The travelling supporters will go away from this concerned about their play-off hopes. Brentford fans will be happy to see another good performance under Thomas Frank.
