Maidstone United completely expunged during pandemic

Every Maidstone United team was affected by the FA’s decision to null and void all seasons from the National League and down.

The women’s first team was comfortable at the top of South East Counties Division One East waiting for promotion and were also in the Kent FA Cup final.

Maidstone’s women’s development team were seven points clear at the top of South East Counties Division Kent Division Two East with a plus 44 goal difference looking forward to promotion at the end of their first season in the league. They were installed in the Kent Divisional Cup’s semi-final.

On the verge of winning the Suburban Football League Premier Division was the men’s U23 squad who just needed one more match to clinch promotion.

The men’s first team finished in 9th place in the National League South and were still on contention to a play-off spot to fight for promotion.

Sports Gazette reporter, Alexandra Ibaceta, spoke to the club’s media officer, John Gooch, who is one of the only staff members still working around the ground.

Here are his thoughts on what it’s been like for the club during the pandemic.
