Barcelona may have had a patchy 2019-20 season on the pitch, but they continue to rule the social media game.
According to latest statistics, Camp Nou is the most Instagrammed football stadium in the world, with 1.8 million hashtags on a single day.
Anfield is the most popular stadium in the UK and is ranked third in the world. With 1.01 million mentions, Liverpool’s home is the only English stadium to have been tagged more than a million times.
The statistics were released by Ticketgum.com by analysing the Instagram trend. The website pulled 15 of the best-known stadiums in the world to crunch the numbers.
The 15 stadiums together generated over 8 million hashtags.
The San Siro, home of Italian sides AC Milan and Inter Milan, is ranked second and was mentioned 1.09 million times. Behind Anfield is the Bernabeau, the home of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Old Trafford is the second most hashtagged football stadium in the UK, thanks to Manchester United’s global appeal. Argentinian side Boca Juniors’ home La Bombonera is the only stadium outside Europe to figure in the top 15.
West Ham United’s home, the London Stadium, attracted the least traffic. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the newest ground on the list, was the second least popular among the top 15.
