Chelsea vs Brentford: The Bees’ travel to the Bridge looking to keep momentum going

Following a convincing and important 3-0 victory at the Gtech Stadium last Saturday against Burnley, Thomas Frank remained characteristically composed, yet fully aware that this crucial win positions them favourably for their upcoming clash with a strong Chelsea side this weekend.

The win against Burnley was the Bees’ second win of the season, and it came at a good time. Brentford are to face Chelsea, West Ham, Liverpool, and Arsenal in their next four Premier League fixtures.

Injuries have been a major problem for the West London team this season with notable first team players such as Kevin Schade, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Rico Henry amongst others, all missing for a significant amount of time due to various injury problems.

However, Ben Mee who has proved himself to be an invaluable member of the Brentford back line is nearing complete fitness after being an unused substitute in the previous match against Burnley.

“Ben Mee is definitely getting close, he played some really valuable minutes in the B team on Wednesday, so he is in a good place now.”

Frank had some high praise for his forwards too following the Burnley game. Last weekend, the Bees’ lined up with Neal Maupay, Bryan Mbeumo, and Yoanne Wissa leading the attack.

“I think it was a very promising game against Burnley, how they linked up. I also asked Wissa to play closer to Neal and you could see they found each other many times.”

“So hopefully that was the first time of many where they can perform well together, they were very dynamic and difficult to close down.”

He added that because of this impressive performance from his attacking players that, “It is very likely we will see them playing tomorrow.”

It was Neal Maupay’s first start since his return to the club and he made a good impression on his boss.

“Neal definitely believes he can score goals, and he is training well so I am convinced it will happen soon.”

Frank was conscious he will be facing tough opposition on Saturday, albeit a side he has had some success over during recent matches against the West London giants, winning two of his last three.

“Chelsea look really promising, I think the players they have are very high quality.”

“I think the talent and potential in the squad is extremely exciting, I can see that team competing in two years time or even earlier.”

Frank also has respect for the new Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino, “Especially when he was at Tottenham I think it was very impressive what he did with that squad. They created a top team with a young group similar to the situation at Chelsea.”

It will be the fourth Chelsea manager Frank will face.

Even though he respects Saturday’s opponents, Frank is confident in his squads ability to compete with any team.

“We also have something to come with and we believe in ourselves, we know we are a good team, we know we can create trouble for any team in this division. That confidence and belief is what we need to bring against Chelsea even if that will be a big challenge.”
