FA Cup 2nd round preview: Wimbledon vs Chesterfield
AFC Wimbledon welcome Chesterfield to Plough Lane in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Wimbledon extended their unbeaten run to 10 games across all competitions with their 1-0 win against Sutton in the Papa John’s Trophy Tuesday night.
It shows the progress the Dons have made as their last defeat came to Sutton all the way back in mid October.
Wimbledon faced a replay against Weymouth after the first game was drawn 1-1, but an Ethan Chislett brace off the bench saw them to a 3-1 win.
Chislett went on to add another goal in Wimbledon’s 2-0 league win over Tranmere, putting his tally at six goals this season.
Expect Chislett and 20-year-old starlet Ayoub Assal to be the Dons’ difference makers.
Chesterfield are third in the National League and red hot, currently on a five game win streak.
They topped Northampton Town 1-0 in the first round of the cup, and will be looking for their second consecutive third round berth at the expense of the Dons.
The last meeting between these sides was in a League One game in January 2017 and ended in a 0-0 draw. With both sides in flying form this time around, expect an exciting affair.
Keep an eye out for flying wingback Jeff King who is Chesterfield’s top scorer this season with six goals.
Kick off is at 15:00 GMT on Saturday the 26th of November.
