Denmark’s World Cup adventure starts tomorrow against Tunisia at the Education City Stadium in the first game of Group D.

The Danes head to Qatar as heavy favourites to be the dark horses of the tournament following their inspirational Euro 2020 campaign where they reached the semifinals.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side go into the tournament in strong form having won four and lost two of their last six games, including a shock double over current World Champions France.

Denmark’s best finish in the World Cup was a quarter-final appearance against France in 1998 and there is heavy optimism that this united De Rød-Hvide side can achieve a similar goal this time around.

Their opponents Tunisia have less World Cup pedigree than the Danes and never progressed past the group stage, only winning two of their 15 games in the competition.

Their last win came against Panama in Russia 2018 where the African side came back to win 2-1 despite finding themselves behind.

Tunisia come to Qatar with a similar run of form with 4 wins, 1 draw  and 1 loss in their last 6 fixtures, the last of which was a 5-1 humbling to tournament favourites Brazil.

Team News

Jalel Kadri’s Tunisia are without any fresh injury issues ahead of their sixth World Cup opener and look likely to stick with their trusted 4-3-3 formation.

Tunisia will be hoping that the wealth of experience from players such as Wahbi Khazri, who scored and assisted in his sides win during the 2018 tournament, will be able to help lead this squad to a glorious escape from a difficult group.

Denmark have also arrived unscathed and will deploy a similar line up to their opponents. The return of Christian Eriksen to the Danish national team is huge and it has played a massive part in their rich run of form leading into Qatar.

Hjulmand’s side have been a tight-knit group ever since the near tragedy during the Finland game and it has only made them stronger as a team both on and off the pitch.

The two side have only met once in the past and it was Denmark who came out victorious, beating Tunisia 2-1 back in 2002.

With the talent and passion that Denmark possesses, it will be very difficult for Tunisia to get a positive result and they will need to be on top form to ensure that the Danes don’t turn them over.
