POST-MATCH QUOTES- AFC WIMBLEDON VS CREWE ALEXANDRA

Johnnie Jackson on another setback for the Dons.

After a strong first-half performance from the home side, it was hard to understand how Wimbledon dropped off so massively in the second half.

Chances galore in the first but they were at a premium in the second. Wimbledon surrendered the game after the first 45 and Crewe equalised with the game finishing 1-1.

Head coach Johnnie Jackson was quick to point that Josh Davinson’s penalty miss midway through the second half was a huge factor in the way the game panned out.

“We had some spells in the second half, but the penalty definitely deflated us. However, we had enough opportunities to put the game to bed and really should have taken them.”

To blame the missed penalty from Davidson would be harsh given the amount of goalscoring opportunities Wimbledon had created, in particular captain Harry Peel and substitute Courtney Senior. Jackson was quick to defend his number nine following his error from the spot.

“People miss penalties. Josh is a good penalty taker. If you’re a penalty taker you are going to miss penalties. I have no issues with Josh.”

Josh Davidson has been superb this season. He is the club’s top goal scorer with five goals contributions in 15 games. Jackson is more than aware of his value to the team, and it seems he is happy for him to deputise with penalties in the future.

Johnnie Jackson on Wimbledon’s injury crisis.

Wimbledon have ten key players out with injury at present, including up and coming prospect Nathan Young-Coombes, stalwart George Marsh and sturdy Alex Pearce. Each player holds their own value to the side, but these are some prominent members who Wimbledon are missing on the pitch.

Lee Browne is the recent name added to the growing list after he went down with a suspected hamstring injury.

“Not sure how bad it is,” said Jackson. “It looks like a hamstring problem again. It feels like something is happening every game.”

Jackson will be ruing the number of players that are absent and will undoubtedly relate this to their recent inconsistent performances. Once they are back, expect an overall improvement in their performances.

Josh Davinson’s reaction on the game following his under-par performance.

Despite Ayoub Assal receiving man of the match for his superb display, Josh Davinson was the center of attention as his penalty miss proved costly in the end.

Lamenting on where it all went wrong for the home side, Davinson said that “we switched off from a corner. That’s on us, not on their brilliance.”

Some would argue that his penalty miss was the prime reason for dropped points. The striker remained confident in his own abilities but honorably accepted the blame.

“It’s my bad. I practice penalties every day after training. I stepped up and missed but that’s part and parcel of being a striker.”
