St Mary’s University RFC: A club on the rise
It’s reaching crunch time in the university rugby season. The St Mary’s University men’s first team have enjoyed an unprecedented run of success so far this season. They are one of just two teams in the top three BUCS divisions to remain unbeaten all season.
This comes following the recent formation of Simmies’ five-year partnership with Old Elthamians RFC, which has seen the local club offer scholarships and coaching to the university’s best rugby talent this season. Unsurprisingly, this has raised the overall standard of rugby at St Mary’s who are currently sitting top of the BUCS South B division.
St Mary’s latest result saw them defeat Cardiff Metropolitan University 36-12 in the last 16 of the BUCS Trophy. They are now preparing for a league clash against Portsmouth, before critical back-to-back matches in the league and cup against title rivals Exeter University RFC.
