Tennis Prodigy Yujiro Onuma and Coach Hamid Hejazi Make Dream Duo

Cambridgeshire tennis has a gem in its ranks. His name, Yujiro Onuma. The talented teenager won the LTA Youth National Series in September 2020 despite being the youngest player in the draw, aged just 16-years-old at the time.

The righthander, who was selected in 2019 for Team GB to take part in the Youth Olympics in Azerbaijan, has to balance college work with his tennis ambitions. The Cambridge ace is coached by Hamid Hejazi and trains with professional player Tom Hands. Hejazi is the director of Over & In coaching and has worked with David Rice, a former Wimbledon competitor, in the past.

Sports Gazette’s Sam Jacot headed to Great Shelford Tennis Club to catch up with Onuma and Hejazi to gain a glimpse into their training conditions during England’s Covid 19 restrictions.
